Difficult passage of the endotracheal tube and massive nasal bleeding during awake nasal fiberoptic intubation in a patient with airway obstruction caused by neck hematoma--a case report.
A 60 yr-old male underwent anterior cervical fusion under general anesthesia. Neck swelling was observed at the next morning. Subsequently, emergent CT scanning was performed, which revealed a retropharyngeal hematoma narrowing the upper airway and right anterior neck hematoma significantly deviating the trachea and larynx. Nasal intubation was attempted but difficult passage of the endotrachea...
متن کاملBall valve nasal obstruction following incomplete inferior turbinectomy.
An interesting case is presented of a 53-year-old male who was seen with a 10-year history of intermittent, unilateral nasal obstruction following a bilateral total inferior turbinectomy. A pedunculated mass was seen in the right posterior nasal space acting as a ball valve. This was removed and found to be residual turbinate tissue.

متن کاملAwareness during endotracheal intubation.
Sir,—The paper by Dunnett (1977) and the subsequent letter from Cormack (1977) deal with the problem of avoiding awareness during endotracheal intubation. May I draw attention to a special situation in which the likelihood of such awareness appears to be increased. This happens when the intranasal cavity is prepared for surgery with cocaine solution or cocaine paste immediately before induction...
متن کاملHow we do it: radiofrequency-turbinectomy for nasal obstruction symptoms.
Radiofrequency energy has been reported to be effective to reduce nasal obstruction because of inferior turbinate hypertrophy. A total of 158 patients who had undergone such surgery are reported. Three to 30 months postoperatively 85% of the patients reported a marked decrease in nasal obstruction. This was irrespective of a short-term or a long-term follow-up, and was applicable to patients th...
